FAMILY SEEDS
BOOK FORMS
FALL 2019
For this project, our professor tasked us with creating a book of our choice. I decided to write and illustrate a children’s book because it was something I have never done before and I felt that I could have some fun with the illustrations.

REPRESENTATION
MATTERS
FAMILY SEEDS is a children’s book focused on overcoming the stigmas that the LGBT community face. The book does this by exposing children to the normalcies of diverse relationships and families. It is often said that children shouldn’t learn about LGBT people as it may confuse them, but one of the best ways to break down stigmas is to educate, focus on the positives, and include everyone. Children’s literature provides kids with the opportunity to appreciate their own identity as well as others. This book hopes to introduce kids to families that may not look like their own; in an easy to comprehend way with fun and colorful illustrations.

VISUAL VAUGHN | ♉︎ | 5
Vaughn is very particular about what he wants. He is stubborn like that. It’s very hard for him to focus if he doesn’t have something to look at. He ONLY likes books if they have pictures and it’s even better if there is a picture on each page so his teacher turns the book around and shows him and his friends the images. Vaughn has two mom’s and he thinks it’s funny when other kids ooh and aah when both his moms pick him up from daycare.
LIKES:

Hallie and her husband think diversity and inclusion is a very important lesson to teach kids while they're young. When their daughter was a child it was very difficult to find books that embody the values she and her husband share. Hallie’s daughter who is now in high school was taught at a very young age to respect and love everyone and she wants to give these same life lessons to her best friend's 5-year-old daughter.
LIKES:
p-flag, healthy relationships, sustainability
DISLIKES:
PTA meetings, bake sales, racism
