FIELDTRIP CLIENT
JAN 2022

We were honored to develop a new brand identity and website for the historic Virginia Theatre in Somerset, Kentucky. As part of a $2 million revitalization effort, this 100-year-old landmark was transformed into a vibrant live performance venue and community event space. Our work aimed to capture the theater's rich history while crafting a fresh, modern look that reflects its exciting new purpose. The result is a visual and digital presence as timeless as the Virginia itself, designed to resonate with residents and visitors alike.

For this project, I designed a concept that blended Somerset’s identity and the Virginia Theatre’s history. Drawing inspiration from the city’s boat propeller logo and the theater’s nickname, “The Lawnchair Theatre,” this design celebrated its past while giving it a fresh, modern appeal. Although this concept went through rounds of revisions and wasn’t the final choice, it captured the community’s spirit and laid the groundwork for reimagining the brand.

We pivoted to a brand that echoed the theater’s original logo, balancing nostalgia with a refreshed identity. From this foundation, I developed a comprehensive style guide and designed a website mockup in Figma. Collaborating closely with our web developer, we brought the design to life, creating a polished and functional website that aligns with the theater’s renewed vision.
